AUTO and AGRI NOMICS

AUTO and AGRI NOMICS

It’s been a hot summer and the heat will most likely continue into the fall.  Hopefully the economy will rebound a little and construction, agricultural and trucking jobs will reappear.  It is also a time of economic uncertainty during which we all need to economize in any practical way possible.  As you may or may not expect, the exact same principles used to diagnose and repair automobile air conditioners apply to trucks and heavy equipment.  Oddly enough, in many instances, even the parts are the same.

Look at the labels on your heavy equipment compressors.  Nippondenso, Denso, Sanden, York, Climate Control, Tama, Diesel Kiki and Valeo are all brand names associated with automobile air conditioning.  They also reliably appear under the hood of your favorite Tractor, Dozer, Crane or Combine.  Usually, the only difference is in the pulley and sometimes, the operating voltages.   Oh, and one more major difference …. The price tag.  Go to your dealer and purchase their OEM part and you will almost always pay much more than you need to.

Recognizing this situation, we have brought in a line of agricultural and heavy equipment OEM replacement air conditioning parts.  These are exact replacement, NEW, private labeled parts that you can purchase at reasonable prices.

Along with the part, it is our policy to provide both the information and knowledge necessary to properly install your new part.  This can be very useful to DIY’ers as well as those who are bringing the part to a mechanic.  It is of great benefit to know and understand what needs to be done so you can be sure the shop you are using is doing the job correctly.  Often times an individual will bring a part, say a compressor, to a shop and ask them to install it.  The shop has not diagnosed the system and does what they have been told, to replace the compressor.  The shop thinks they are doing what their customer wants and the unknowing customer thinks this will solve his problem.  Often times it will not.  It is a rare occasion that a compressor can be changed with no peripheral repairs along with it.  It is for that reason we will spend whatever time it takes to dispense the information necessary to get it right the first time.

Next we will address how to properly identify your compressor when the label is illegible.  If this interests you check back soon.  We will describe in detail how to identify the various types of Nippondenso, Denso, Sanden, York, Climate Control, Tama, Diesel Kiki and Valeo compressors by observing specific features and details.

Until the next time …..Joe
